  1. There are approximately 3,600 known species of snakes in the world
  2. The Black Mamba is the fastest snake in the world and can move up to 12mph (20kmph)!
  3. The smallest snakes in the world are Brahminy blind snakes which can be as short as 2 ½ inches long. They are often mistaken for earthworms

4. Snakes don’t have eyelids.

5. Snakes are found on every continent of the world except Antarctica.

6. Snakes have flexible jaws which allow them to eat prey bigger than their head!

7. Scientific name: Serpentes

8. The heaviest snake in the world is the anaconda. It weighs over 595 pounds (270 kg) and can grow to over 30 feet (9m) long. It has been known to eat caimans, capybaras, and jaguars.

9. Snakes typically need to eat only 6–30 meals each year to be healthy.

10. A snake’s fangs usually last about 6–10 weeks. When a fang wears out, a new one grows in its place.
